Joy Toralba:
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Joy for an hour-long, one on
one interview recently. As her picture suggests, she is a
gentle, affectionate nanny who loves spending time with
children.
Joy has been working with the same family in Hong Kong since August,
2005. She has looked after their only child since she was a
baby and is familiar with the steps involved in establishing a feeding
and nap routine for infants. She also cooks the family meals
and does all of the housework and laundry.
Before moving to Hong Kong, Joy worked for Elena Siena for two years in
the Philippines. We interviewed Elena on the phone on May 17,
2008. Here are some excerpts from that discussion.
Quote 1:
"Joy is fantastic with children!
My son started having asthma at about five months old.
He used to have asthma attacks about once a week and she
would use the nebulizer and administer his medicine if I was at work.
I trusted her very much because I knew she could help me and
take care of my son."
Quote 2:
"She is honest and hardworking.
She was always willing to help with the cooking and cleaning.
I can't tell you how much that helped me as a working mother."
Elena says Canadian employers interested in Joy can call her anytime
for a reference. We will provide her number upon request.
Joy says she is comfortable looking after children with medical
conditions because her own daughter had to undergo three operations
before she was two weeks old. Her daughter eventually
recovered and is now a happy and healthy ten year old.
Joy has first aid, CPR and water safety training. She is an
animal lover who says her dream is to someday own a horse.
She is also an avid fan of cross-stitching. Her favourite
past-time is creating scenes for family and friends. During
her interview with us she pulled out a beautiful landscape she had just
completed.
Despite her gentle nature Joy is also an impressive athlete. She
played varsity basketball and volleyball in high school and university.
She is also an avid fan of table tennis and a strong swimmer.
She loves being active with the children under her care and
coaching them in athletics.
She is willing to work anywhere in Canada.
